About
For years, I envisioned a studio built around ceramics as a central medium and equipped to complete an idea with wood, metal, and other materials when called for. That vision is now taking shape in my studio, where art and design converge and additional materials are integrated with clay.
Though formally educated in design, I am a self-taught artist. My practice developed from a foundation in design. Beginning with the study of architecture, learning about form and space, and continuing through industrial design, where my attention shifted to process and fabrication. This dual training gave me a propensity for creating structures but not in a mechanical way. I have a deep desire to express and make with my hands. I construct by pinching, building with slab, or sculpting where each piece embodies irregularity and warmth.
The resulting body of work draws from architecture and from the natural world as recurring reference points: its structures and repetitious patterns. I'm drawn to repeated forms because of the rhythm that builds when a single gesture recurs across a surface or through a series. It is the underlying thread that brings life to my work.
